         Organization of the fifty-third regular session of the
              General Assembly, adoption of the agenda and
                          allocation of items


                 Second report of the General Committee


         1. At its 3rd meeting, on 23 October 1998, the General Committee
considered a request submitted by the Democratic Republic of the Congo
(A/53/232) for the inclusion in the agenda of an additional item entitled:

         "Armed aggression against the Democratic Republic of the Congo."

In this connection, the General Committee decided to recommend to the General
Assembly that the item should be included in the agenda.

         2. At the same meeting, the General Committee also considered a
request submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran (A/53/233) for the inclusion
in the agenda of an additional item entitled:

         "Dialogue among civilizations."

In this connection, the General Committee decided to recommend to the General
Assembly that the item:

            (a)    Should be included in the agenda;

            (b)    Should be considered directly in plenary meeting.
