         51/402.  Adoption of the agenda and allocation of agenda items


     At its 3rd, 31st, 68th and 78th plenary meetings, on 20 September,
11 October, 29 November and 10 December 1996, the General Assembly, on the
recommendations of the General Committee as set forth in its first, 1/
second, 2/ third 3/ and fourth 4/ reports, adopted the agenda 5/ and
the allocation of agenda items 6/ for the fifty-first session.

     At its 3rd plenary meeting, on 20 September 1996, the General Assembly,
on the recommendation of the General Committee, 7/ decided to defer
consideration of the following items and to include them in the provisional
agenda of its fifty-second session:

     Question of the Malagasy islands of Glorieuses, Juan de Nova, Europa and
     Bassas da India;

     Question of East Timor.

     At its 31st plenary meeting, on 11 October 1996, the General Assembly,
on the recommendation of the General Committee, 8/ decided to include in the
agenda of its fifty-first session an additional item entitled "Observer status
for the International Seabed Authority in the General Assembly" and to
consider it directly in plenary meeting.

     At its 68th plenary meeting, on 29 November 1996, the General Assembly,
on the recommendation of the General Committee, 9/ decided to include in the
agenda of its fifty-first session an additional item entitled "Cooperation
between the United Nations and the International Organization for Migration"
and to consider it directly in plenary meeting.

     At the same meeting, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the
General Committee, 10/ decided to include in the agenda of its fifty-first
session an additional item entitled "Proclamation of 7 December as
International Civil Aviation Day" and to consider it directly in plenary
meeting.

     At its 78th plenary meeting, on 10 December 1996, the General Assembly,
on the recommendation of the General Committee, 11/ decided to include in
the agenda of its fifty-first session an additional item entitled "Observer
status for the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in the General
Assembly" and to consider it directly in plenary meeting.

     At the same meeting, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the
General Committee, 12/ decided to include in the agenda of its fifty-first
session an additional item entitled "Proclamation of 21 November as World
Television Day" and to consider it directly in plenary meeting.  The Assembly,
on the proposal of Italy, further decided that it would consider the item
before its recess in December 1996.
