        51/302.  Election of the President of the General Assembly 1/


     At its 1st plenary meeting, on 17 September 1996, the General Assembly,
in accordance with Article 21 of the Charter of the United Nations and rule 31
of the rules of procedure of the Assembly, elected Mr. RAZALI Ismail
(Malaysia) President of the General Assembly.


                                     Note

1/   In accordance with rule 38 of the rules of procedure of the General
Assembly, the General Committee consists of the President of the Assembly, the
21 Vice-Presidents and the Chairmen of the six Main Committees.
