ECOSOC high-level and coordination segments to contribute to the 2005 General Assembly high-level review

In 2005, the ECOSOC high-level segment will address the theme: "Achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including those contained in the Millennium Declaration as well as the implementing the outcomes of the major United Nations conferences and summits: progress made, challenges and opportunities" (ECOSOC decision 2004/294).

The 2005 high-level segment, together with the coordination segment which will address "Towards achieving internationally agreed development goals, including those contained in the Millennium Declaration" (ECOSOC decision 2004/292), will directly tie into the preparations for the upcoming 2005 high-level review by the General Assembly of the progress made in the fulfillment of all the commitments contained in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, including the internationally agreed development goals and the global partnership required for their achievement, and of the progress made in the integrated and coordinated implementation, at the national, regional and international levels, of the outcomes and commitments of the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social and related fields.
