ECOSOC 2002 High-Level Segment
1 - 3 July 2002

The Economic and Social Council, at its substantive session of 2001, chose "The Contribution of Human Resources Development, including in the areas of health and education, to the process of development" as the theme for the high-level segment of its  substantive session in July 2002.

In preparation for these, three one-day roundtable discussions were held in February and March 2002 in consultation with WHO, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, the World Bank and other agencies on the sub-themes: "Health and Development", "Education and Development" and "Human Resources Development". A briefing was held on 1 May 2002 by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Harvard University, on HIV/AIDS.

A report by the Secretary-General on the theme for the high-level segment has been issued.

A CD ROM containing the summaries of the preparatory meetings and other related documents has been prepared by the Division for ECOSOC Support and Coordination. For an internet version of the CD ROM, click here.
