On 7 February 2014, the High Representative met with Mr. Yasuyoshi Komizo, Secretary-General of the Mayors for Peace.

The Mayors for Peace network is rapidly approaching 6000 cities in 158 countries. Its goal includes the promotion of the abolition of nuclear weapons by 2020, including a Nuclear Weapons Convention.

To this effect, Mayors for Peace is looking forward to a number of events to draw attention to its cause. This includes enhanced interaction with the United Nations through participation at the third session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear weapons.

They also plan a number of exhibits at various UN locations in the world and a more visible role at the first session of Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear weapons in 2017.
