The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Hibakusha Testimonies Will we listen to the voices of survivors of hell? Will we heed the warnings in the stories they tell? Can we learn the lessons they know too well? They teach us: live in peace. Does the burning of flesh or the stench of decay Make the conflicts between nations go away? Does the price that sisters and brothers pay For their parents' wars bring relief? Imagine a world where we've learned from our past That war never ends with a bomb or a blast, But lingers forever in all of its paths, Pleading: live in peace.
