The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Ashes Reborn White crane wings catch fire in bright flash, Feathers consumed to blackened ash. Night becomes day and back to night, Death imparts heavenly flight, The living stay buried in perpetual fright, Vowing to end a twisted might. In wisdom grows peace, lifting high Dreams again on new wings to fly.
