Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Traces of pain

When I was a little girl, I learned so well
That people can be the most beautiful gift
But also they could become in trash, all bliss
Because some of them, I had to say "Farewell"

Even now, all those facts look like a deep well
Events happened so fast, as a weapon hiss.
I just remember that I saw a light big
Suddenly All looked weird, as under a spell.

Many people passed away in that instant
elders, young, kids, no matter the age, they died
All was chaos, destroyed... Nothing warranted.

Houses, trees, animals and people outside
scattered in anywhere, join dreams grievant...
and those were alive with lots of pain inside.
