Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Violence is not the answer,
nor will it ever be.
When the A-bomb was dropped
on Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, it was not
a pretty sight,
nor were the effects
of this disaster.
Many Japanese suffered,
it's hard to live a normal life,
when they have to go through
the sufferings of radiation.
Violence is not the answer,
nor will it ever be.
