Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The Atomic Bomb

Why did they cause the bomb?

With smoke coming from the bomb

Dead bodies everywhere

Dead people, no hair

Cars and buildings destroyed

They should have run

And hide for their lives

And try to dodge the knives

As their skin burns

They should have made a right turn

As their skin had bumps

The road had lumps

I feel very sad

And the people who did this are bad

I now feel mad

As the buildings fell

I wish there was a wishing well

As they had burned skin

This world is about to spin

As the bomb made smoke

Life is such a big Joke

As their body went cold

I would have stand tall and bold
