Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Peace

you hurt them
people are suffering
they're dying
families are destroyed
houses are falling apart
theirs a whole bunch of natural disasters
technology is not only a blessing but can also be looked at as a curse
peace is all we ask for
why cant we all get along
why can't we avoid war
peace is what is needed for a perfect land
atomic bombs, guns and weapons are causing this world to fall apart
using this technology
is hurting yourself, others and your beautiful land
peace is important to all of us
we all wonder will there ever be peace?
