Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

FORGIVENESS IS THE KEY TO OUR PEACE

After all the killings and destruction
There is a need to stop looking back
To put all the past in the dark
We need to move on with our generation

Today, a new day has dawn
When we need to rise and be strong
Loving ourselves, to live and let's live
Forgiveness is the Key to our peace

The hatred of race, language and religion should rest
Let's come together and make peace from east to west
Looking at all our pains, sorrows and tears
Peace is here for us, it's all we have

A world free of war and forgiveness is our dream
Join me to save our world is what I mean
