Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Battered, burnt, bruised, dead.....
Without a fault blown to shreds,
Thats the reality of a bloody war,
What exactly do we fight for?

Isn't peace better than commotion?
Isn't preserving better than destruction?
Isn't love better than hate?
Is it so tough to open heart's gates?

Souls ripped apart, families torn to shreds,
Young lives cut short, life constantly under threat,
Thats not what its supposed to be,
Lets make the world what its meant to be!
