Below is one of the contest entries.
Let there be peace, goodwill and harmony in this world It seemed just "yesterday", when we were all there together, Together beside the hearth, talking, laughing, sharing precious moments with one another. I yet could remember those moments, so warm and tender; Mother, you were there with me, I can still recall, Holding my hand, guiding me, never to stumble or fall. It seemed a chapter of my life was mercilessly torn, When a loud deafening explosion overwhelmed our town like a storm. In that fleeting moment, my hopes, my dreams, all shattered and gone. A brutal, heartless hand snatched all of you away. Disillusioned and alone, my world seemed to collapse and sway. It seemed all so sudden - The whole place filled with terrifying groans, screams and shouts; Amid a scene of devastation and chaos, were dismembered and charred bodies, all strewn and scattered about; Limbless, helpless, with disfigured faces, were the survivors, Their futile attempts to find water, a heart-breaking scene altogether; Tis a nightmare which will haunt me forever. Thus, Let there be peace, goodwill and harmony in this world; no more war, bitterness nor enmity; Let there be compassion and kindness in this world; no more greed, grudge nor envy; Let there be mercy and forgiveness everywhere; no more foe or enemy. Let there be peace, goodwill and harmony in this world, let there be.
