Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

And so
the motors silenced

The wind stopped blowing in pipes

There was a light,
       the sound,
    a tremendous pressure.

And then the meat is torn
    from its home
       to the world
          not so cold.

There were no engines left behind
rotting in wooden coffin.

They disappeared among the atoms
into the cosmos

And look
mushroom cloud rose to the sky.
