Below is one of the contest entries.
The Heroes of WWII It was a war that changed lives It was the fault major things, minor things It is a war that contained the worst of human advancement The A-bomb And when the Hiroshima and Nagasaki stood in its way, It was to end the war, they say, and Little boy and Fat man did so The Earth shook The rain turned black A deep silence of burning followed. Blackness swallowing the people leaving scars both on the inside and out But those who survived, lived on, lived to see the next day, the future, continued their lives, but despised war for tarnishing their lives. Those Hibakusha, united by their past and a new dream, Forged friendship, allies, comrades into stopping a new war, and the use of mankind’s horrid weapon They hope to preserve the world in which we should all love, so that one may never experience war again.
