Below is one of the contest entries.
SONNET OF PEACE FOR MY HIROSHIMA SIBLING To my sibling encapsulated in the Hiroshima shriek, I write this conciliatory and peace-promoting verse. Tears turned rivers, body and soul struck weak When Nature breathed out mighty atomic stress. I know your memory is a reservoir of the 1945 blast Yet we must make peace come, and come to last. A world built on the rock of love and peace Is a thing we can achieve with resounding ease-- If world leaders swallow their greed And past villains apologize for their misdeed, If my Hiroshima sibling is given a hope of peace That that war-trodden spirit be renewed to bliss, An El Dorado we shall all at last see For we would have disagreed to agree.
