Below is one of the contest entries.
1. Peace. Five letters. like the elements. Idea, that ties together the World and can set it free. How tight will the knot get? How many people will decide to jump the rope and escape? 2. Where are we now? Where is my land, my heart, my soul? May I bring it back some day? Is it lost forever in the cries and in the pain? Do we belong to this Earth that so viciously is turned against us? Can we trust the flowing water to regain our hopes in life? Where is my home, my land? I do not see. I am lost and afraid. Amongst the dead I shiver and cry empty tears filled with questions that go unanswered. 3. Water, ever missing, constant presence. Yesterday as today, it shows its power and deadly will. Alone, we breath in the dark air, we cringe inside and we don't rest. Our futures as smoke, shrivelled like metal pieces. We walk on. Unknowing, unseeing. 4. Heavy and empty the clouds do not lift, the souls do not heal. Alone in the dust with burning red eyes, I fail to gain reason. My heart is silent, my limbs are numb; yet screaming for life. We are alone amongst the dead. We do not live. We are far from home. 5. Alone, lost, torn. Red earth, burnt skin. Cuts do not heal. Destiny, revealing the strength within. Inhumane courage. Strength. The heart braking at every beat.
