Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Chorus of Peace

In my faithful cry
and eyes swollen
hope lost
to view
daydreaming and stare.

I shivered in awe
at blood
and marred voices

I wish for yesterday
hugs and whispers into her ears
The peace once had
when the noble heavens unfolded
and the breeze left everything
serene.

Our children bid farewell to
sweet aid at
beaches, and call to
peace.

Bags of grace, yield of harvest past
storeroom of gold,
fragrance of joy eclipsed for
shades of arms.

Injustice
to cause distant cries

For Peace,
I say.
