Below is one of the contest entries.
Little children firmly holding their mother's hand, Looking to see if there was hope. Innocent lives at loss, turning into sand, The struggle, the blood, the tears, it's too much to cope. The living souls of Japan questioning their survival, a curse or bliss? Praying to the Almighty for the departed, with their hands in fold. What have they done to deserve this? The question remains untold. Long were those days, but the pain never goes away, Oh! How I wish it was just a nightmare, But it wasn't, it was all real which we have to face everyday, People are crying and suffering, it's time to think about human welfare. The damage has long been made and the victims remain in pain, Let's make sure that their tears and struggle will no longer be in vain.
