The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Ashes... All I see are ashes; all I see are ashes, hurt, burnt, and scared people. Knowing that I cost many lives only the lucky ones survived, My explosion engraved in the hearts of the Hibakusha. The Americans are to blame, hoping this wasn’t the frame to another fast flying plane dropping another living hell cage. All I see are ashes; all I see are ashes, hurt, burnt and scared people. Crying, scared, hurt, and moaning people was all heard. All I see are ashes; all I see are ashes, hurt, burnt and scared people.
