Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

MAKE PEACE A LAW

Let the racial rage ease
And let the noisy wave of war freeze
Let the scientific atrocities cease
And let peace flow like a stiff breeze

War is massive terror and destruction on rampage
Which remain glowing embers embedded in a survivors heart
Wondering how his dream book had this horrifying page
Where a huge boom throws man and his destiny apart

The vanquished languish in anguish for eternity
Bleeding with pain and terror that sucks them dry
Breeding in their hearts a hive of enmity
With a wish to extinguish the fire that made his land cry

War is the greatest human flaw
Kill it and make PEACE a universal law.
