Below is one of the contest entries.
On her head looms the shadow, Of a bomb wrapped in silken flowers; But she knows it cannot be real, No peril can bring a better morrow. Nationalism, deterrence and safety, they chant; Liars they were, sadists they became. For she knows no weapon can join them all; She knows no weapon can save them all. Inner cadence commands them to crush the world, And turn it into a palm of dust. The voices from Hiroshima taunt her, The memories of Nagasaki stab her, She clutches her throat and waits to die. Stolen secrets and shrouded lies mixed, By the guilty hands of scientific minds; Who made a monster they couldn't tame, But who won the hearts of many emperors. They laid him with their precious gems; And protected him with all their strength. The creature's shrills disturb the slumber; Of the world and lead it asunder. She knows no one can hear her song; Her voice dies in the eternal gong. A silent plea, she utters still, Disarm, disarm, disarm!
