Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Terror From Above

Just a normal day
in a quiet place

but when the alarm sounds

people race

to find cover, to find shelter to find a place

were they are safe.

Hiding with loved ones

crazy with fear.

Terror from above

has taken its toll.

not one person there

can find their soul.

Most are dead

others scared for life

and not even mothers can recognize

their own flesh and blood.

Hibakusha tell it all
