Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Peace.........
It has many meanings.
The bombings in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
were very hectic.
Many lives were lost.
Innocent people had died.
BOOM!!!!
Thud! goes the townspeople.
 It wasn't very peaceful.
 A verydrastic bombing.
 Those people won't return.
Peace never arrived during this bombing.
Peace never stopped this hectic bombing
 Or whoever caused the bombing.
 BOOM!!!!!!!
The silhouettes remained on streets and houses.
 The silhouettes of the
 people were like
 carving onto a wall.
Why hasn't a dove flown by
and just stop the bomb from hitting
 Hiroshima and Nagasaki's
streets and homes?
 But instead
 BOOM!!!
 Thud! goes the people of
 Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
