The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
The childish innocence I looked at the eyes of innocence Blinded by smoke, Wet from the rain Splinters and Tongues of fire, Amazed by the silence Of all the people Lying on the floor innerme With eyes wide open Towards a better future. I looked into the eyes Stolen Innocence, defeat, perished, His irreversible candor. I looked With the eyes of innocence And, I could not see No more.
