Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

From the bottom
Of my heart, I feel deeply
Sorry for the booming
That hit Japan
I would have done
So many things like protest
Write letters to whom
Ever runs or rule the country
Then do something about it like
Make a donation...
Next...give it to Japan.
1945, ATOMIC, explosion
Burned, shriveled dead bodies,
Hibakusha, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Boom
Fear, I am distraught, destroyed homes
And cars and people, severely burned and destroyed
September 21st equals peace
No fired guns, attempt to disarm
Nuclear missiles, all wars are frozen,
Only one question left, who did this...?
......and why?
Why?
