Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The Feeling on That Day

When I hear people die from atomic bombs
I don't know what to say
Then again I hear the Hibakusha talk about their experiences
It touches me
I asked myself, " What if I was a survivor, losing my family, friends, and neighbors ?
I'd be lost trying to remember happier times when i actually had them
I do know that I would be living in fear
The pain they must had felt on that day
Must of been terrible, and unexplainable

Think about it
People dieing from the radiation, and the explosion
The fear they must felt when they couldn't have help, and were dieing slowly
Seeing their neighbors dieing at their own sight
The sirens, the smell in the air
I know if I was to experience that moment
...... I would be lost
