Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

whistle of the bomb
mowed the sky
in front of the bird's eyes
a moment of silence
on the deathbed
Nagasaki's morning
Hiroshima's woe
each stone and a flower
with a stamp of enemy
voices from the tombs
on the Hiroshima's back
shadow of mankind's enemy
