Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

It was a day of infamy
I did't know what was in for me
Boom, suddenly the sky was full of dust
I was so stiff, like a bike chain full of rust.

My eyes so bloodshot
while my skin was so hot
I couldn't take this pain
I felt like choking myself with a chain.

This country of Japan has fell
now we have gone to Hell.
There are people screaming
and I cannot take this feeling.

This country has been through Hell and back
and now we have been attacked.
So many people on the floor lying
as we all are slowly dying.

I say bye to my mom and dad
I am so not glad.
I wish I knew what was in for me
but now this will be known as a day of infamy.
