Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

LOVE FOR PEACE, HATE FOR VIOLENCE

We are always on the run
Sending armies that never turn
Many are those who never return
For joining the majority’s rerun
When shall we ever mind to learn
That war and violence were not invented to earn.

If you preach of peace today
Everyone seems to be flying with your mood
But I pity those who never concentrate
For the song peace erases during the day

Don’t mind if you never ever know
That peace doesn’t ever flow in dreams
You have to bend and collect it in pieces
For a nation to be transformed in one piece
Many have to sweat and spend sleepless nights

I am proud to put these on a script
That never will I join those in violence
For it is a vice I will live to spit
Keep it doomed as if it had no existence
Refuse the regicide and promise my heart
Forever I vow to maintain peace in one piece
