Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Listen Carefully
Peace
is a trail of laughter
of children like bells
running and ringing
through fields
it's the edge of your eyes
when you smile in your sleep
it's the world in a word
when you sense
truth is deeper
than words
can imagine
it's learning
to listen
to share
to reflect
to connect
it's not easy
we complicate
and confuse
and we stumble towards
yet Peace first need exist
in our heart
