Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

"I plead to forever stay in peace"

It felt like it was just yesterday...
The sky was crisp and clear but then it arrived...
At 8:15AM the first bomb had dropped on Hiroshima.
At 11:02 the second bomb hit Nagasaki.
To this day, we will remember the lives of the taken
and the lives of the survivors
listening to their stories of what they all saw.
To this day, we plead world peace.
To never let what happened in Hiroshima ever happen again.
To never have to fear warfare for our children
To never again have to see the sufferings of entire families
To forever be in peace and harmony
To forever lose the anxiety of atomic bombing
And to be together forever.
