Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

I am walking through the streets
It is 1945, August 12
The infamous Hiroshima Bombing took place six days ago
Still, there are people lying in the streets
Total devastation
I was a few blocks away and I saw a plane drop the bomb
A flying bird
A raindrop falling from the sky
When it hit the ground,
BOOM!
All life seemed gone
Not a sound to be heard
Everyone who did survive was ruthlessly injured
The infamous Hiroshima Bombing took place six days ago
