Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Atomic Bombing

It left families in tears and yearning.

It left homes broken and ruined.

It left all nature in fear and burning.

Very few actually survived through it.

Children in danger;

Harmed by these foreign strangers.

It was war;

A fight for a small piece of land;

That’s what most of it was for.

What happened?

The atomic bombs landed

Leaving soldiers stranded

And people dead.

Becoming history that took place;

Something we remember even today.
