Below is one of the contest entries.
"And All Did Perish" Down through the pages of history our legacy is written in blood. The blood of the warrior, but also the innocent. Whatever reason for the battle matters little now, For all did perish. We turn a blind eye to the strife in other times and other lands. But the blood is still shed, the reasons lost in legend. Though distant from us and unknown by name, All did perish. When men give in to evil urges and insanity rules the day, There can be no glory in battle, nor any winners or losers. For all will suffer, even the land will cry out in anguish, And all did perish.
