Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Just the beginning

Air planes filled blue skies

Closed my eyes; filled with darkness
Reaching out for help.

   Bombs started dropping

                     Watching with innocent eyes.

                          Fire spread quickly

                            Woke up in a haze

                Fire consumed everything

In Nagasaki

A Broken World

    Hear the groans and moans.

                 Helpless people perishing

 Dreams lost in a flash
