Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

In a blink of an eye
Families were pinned down under houses
In the midst of flame
Bodies of the innocent turned into corpses

Blooming lights and vanishing lives
The skies turn black and cities flood with ashes
Painful screams and endless tears
Crying for mercy and praying for humanity

Fatally burnt and fatally injured
Hundreds of citizens left speechless
Dried up souls and lives taken in an instant
Massive destructions never forgotten
