Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls

Seeing atomic God
mushroom cloud billows
spores of lace and tornado
wind force smoking clouds expand
August 9, 1945 Fatman
cancer choking light smeared sky
satan shroom towers above and I
grow, grow, touch sun and
tsunami waves of peyote sand
dance scary beauty
crown of brown
giant bubble lava glow
Ivy Mike the first
full scale H
to bathe the brain in flame
they didn’t know
we didn’t know
I didn’t know
how bad it could go.
