Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Heart and Soul - the man

It's best to live outside ourselves
That inwardly is selfishness
The head well-buried in the sand

Move with shoes upon our feet
Closer to a person's side
Abide a while within their life

Gain strength from one another
Close that gap between us
Sharing much our sustenance

Turning back the hands of time
Too late - tomorrow beckons us
I've not forgotten you my friend.

Where eagles fly,
It's time for peace,
