Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Life, death, the unconscious, unaware pain, suffering, loss, the
uncertainty the light, the flash, the unknown darkness, alive but not
quite living, the burden, the heartache of destruction.
Unreal, surreal,
yet the dead still departed, the day burns in one's mind, like a dark
memory, thought the world stopped, unanswered prayers, the aftermath,
will breaking, strength restricting, never ending, let this day of terror not
repeat , let it not repeat.
