Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Perhaps One Day

How can you live your life in dread?
When in a single moment,
Your loved ones are dead.
Constantly looking at the sky
With hands over your head.
Pray to the gods that soon this will end.
Perhaps one day,
A hero will send
Someone to stop
The bombs that were dropped.
Devastation.
Heartache.
Frustration.
To heaven their souls will take.
Perhaps one day the sun will shine again.
Over the land of the rising sun.
