The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
A Terrible Act The atomic bomb on Hibakusha was a terrible act One that cannot be described, A lost so great that even today the pain can’t be taken away. Innocent people lost their lives and didn’t get to see the light. A person can forgive but can’t forget an outrageous act. Let us pray to all the lives that were lost, That their souls may be in peace and in eternal heaven with God. War is so wrong in so many ways, Let’s remember that it will not get us anywhere, It will just bring us more pain, anger, sorrow, loss and regrets. It’s not worth it and don’t let it define us. Let’s honor and remember the victims And know that there suffering and death wasn’t in vain. Each year we remember and cherished this day So that it doesn’t repeat it self in this world today. May They Rest In Peace.
