Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Falling

Like a slap to the palm,
On a day that was far from calm,
Came the bomb.

"Water", she asked for;
It was all she wanted,
Five days of nothing was what she got.
Numb from pain,
Confused,
Thirteen.
And then her parents found her.

Peace is like the sun in a thunderstorm,
It’s always there, waiting to shine,
When all the rain has fallen.
