Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The Age of Fear

The bombs are dropped.
It is impossible to stop time now.
Many deaths are to come.
Many civilians of Japan will die.
The atomic bombs can cause destruction.
The destruction of lives.
The radiation poisoning in the air.
The sorrow of the families as clear as day.
Fear rises in from the sky to the ground.
People look for lost family members.
Was it worth it?
No one knows.
Only do we know the sorrow,
Pain,
And deaths
Of the bombs.
