Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

                    Pika-Don

P ictures of the past, chronicle the history of the future
I lluminated lights fill the sky with a boom that is heard around the world
K nowing the pictures from this light show, leave permanent snap shots
       on the unknowing photographer
A negative imprint of sadness once filled by joy that may not be visible to all
D eep wounds not only fill the heart, but the memory and consciousness
       of those who survive
O pen your eyes, the negative imprints of history that once resided in the dark
N otions of positivity and change in the disarmament of the atomic light show
