The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Peace for Me, Peace for the World Everyone wants world peace Old or young, it doesn’t matter That is a beautiful idea, it’s seen as a fantasy But I believe otherwise There will be peace Peace in which: Guns will be no more, Bombs will be no more, Hate will be no more, Racism will be no more, Violence will be no more, All this will be forgotten, All that will be things of the past In that world, the world at peace There will also be abundance, Abundance of love Abundance of joy and happiness, All of those things and more At peace, we will be Just as the hammock sways under the trees This will be true in a near future That is right, there will be peace Peace for me, peace for the world That is the future I see The future for you and me
