Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Hibakusha’s Poem!

As One the Hibakusha’s stand

United to help each other hand by hand

Together protesting to stop the commotion

The Hibakusha’s experienced a nuclear war

As many died that day, many didn’t know what for

Although all this is the past

The Hibakusha’s lost many of their families

They are helping, so this doesn’t happen to us

They fought for peace, so wars did not arise

As they experienced this horrible tragedy

The Hibakusha’s were very peaceful people

And didn’t care about revenge

Instead they cared that this didn’t happen to us.

After learning the ways of the Hibakusha’s

They became zero to hero.
