Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

THE CHOICE AT THE CROSS ROAD

There came a time
When a man had no dime
Wallowing through the prime
Cities; he finds nothing but crime

"As you go away
Promise to hug no trouble
Your choice is always double,"
My old man had his say

"As you join this gang,
Promise to tell no ear.
Do this or you are hung,"
The felons made me swear

There are two vows now
Both to make me thrive
But I end my life
At once, should I break the felons vow

Peace costs no fee
Crime, you've got to flee
